To make your home look perfect, you need to pay special attention to keeping its interior in a perfect condition. However, your windows can have an impact on the interior as well as the exterior of your property. Cleaner windows can add to the overall appeal of your home, but at the same time, they help invite the bright light back into your home. While you can always find professional window cleaning services, you can handle minor cleaning tasks on your own. You just need some time and willingness to put in some effort. You can even make your own cleaning solution to help have sparkling clean windows.

Cleaning Your Windows

The process of cleaning your windows does not have to be very difficult. Here is how to achieve good results.

  • Start by removing whatever dust is there on your windows. Be sure to tie back all the blinds or curtains and then use a dustpan brush to remove any dust from the window. Do not ignore window corners while removing any built up dust.
  • Wash your windows properly. You can always use warm soapy water for this task. Simply take a sponge, soak it into soapy water and use it to clean your windows. You can also opt for commercially available window cleaning solutions, but avoid going very strong here or else you might end up damaging surrounding paintwork.
  • Get rid of any excess water using a clean squeegee. Be sure to work in a reverse-S pattern to help wipe off the excess water. Use an old rag to clean the squeegee blade. Then, you should use damp, wrung-dry chamois or another cloth to remove all the remaining water. Do not forget to use the cloth on the windowsill to remove remaining water.
  • Finally, you need to use the old newspaper trick. Use a pad of crumpled newspaper to buff the dry glass of your windows.

The process is quite simple and usually works fine to clean most types of windows. To get better results, consider cleaning your windows on a cloudy day because this ensures that your windows do not become dry a little too quickly. If they take some time to dry up, you are less likely to deal with streaks on the glass. Whether you use a soapy solution or opt for some commercially made solutions, be sure to wash your windows thoroughly and do it at least twice a year.

While you can handle most of the window cleaning tasks on your own, you may want to call in a professional to take care of greasy or really dirty windows. Some homemade solutions can help clean these windows but sometimes, it is better to let a professional use their experience to leave you with sparkling windows. Be sure to take some time to do your research before you decide to hire a window-cleaning expert. Only the most experienced can help produce the finest results!
