Minimal accessories
2019 is the year of the spring clean. It’s time to remove the collection of shabby-chic accessories and hide away the ornaments that have been gathering dust. If you don’t want to totally scrap all the accessories (they will more than likely be back in fashion soon enough) simply put them in storage. Natural patterns
Floral, ferns and greenery are making a comeback so you can expect fabrics to be decorated with busy floral prints. You may see a vintage theme crawl back in with patterned wallpapers, cushioned sofas and plant accents adding texture to your home. Not only this, you’ll find that patterns will decorate kitchens and bathrooms. Patterned splashback boards, tiles and flooring are set to replace the simple bold colours.
Maritime design
Colourful scallop furniture, mirrored arches and fish scale-shaped tiles will make their way into your homes this year. Think less seaside and more geometric marine patterns where tropical fish are the inspiration. Bright colours, shimmering glass and textured blues can create a warm, stylish and sophisticated environment that’s reminiscent of the art deco era – a bold statement to replicate.
Metal features
Metalwork is still a popular focus for many designers with natural coppers appearing in bathrooms in the form of exposed plumbing. But, instead of appealing to industrial stylings where visible pipes accompany rough wood exposures and tarnished metal worktops; metals will be used as features. With wrought-iron tables, sculptures and wall art already making waves online, you can expect to pick up some statement pieces from the high street throughout the year. Spray-painted metals are still going to be popular with the focus on gold, silver, rose gold and some jewel tones.
