With the new year comes new trends that will influence how we will shape our homes, offices and public spaces. If you’re planning on reinventing your home’s interior style, stay ahead of the game with these interior design trends. They’ll help you be brave with colour and find the fabrics and patterns that are perfect for your home.
Minimal accessories
2019 is the year of the spring clean. It’s time to remove the collection of shabby-chic accessories and hide away the ornaments that have been gathering dust. If you don’t want to totally scrap all the accessories (they will more than likely be back in fashion soon enough) simply put them in storage. As well as the attic, you could use a bed from the Divan Beds Centre as a practical storage solution. This means you can hide away the fabrics and odd accessories you don’t want to display without adding in more storage units. Instead of smaller accessory pieces, add in statement features, with eye-catching designs and bold colours.
Bright colours
Gone are the days of blank walls and dull pallets, in 2019 the focus is promptly pinned on colours. But, not just any colours, designers are looking to contrast warmer shades with bright, bold hues. In fact, Pinterest has reported that the search for mustard yellow in home decoration has seen an increase. People are also adding colour to their parquet tiled floors. An easy way to incorporate new, brighter shades is to use fabrics or artwork to test out new schemes. Choose vibrant bold prints, which are also in fashion this year and combine with dark greys, blues and emerald greens. Be brave when it comes with adding colour and don’t be afraid to contrast multiple of shades together.
Natural patterns
Floral, ferns and greenery are making a comeback so you can expect fabrics to be decorated with busy floral prints. You may see a vintage theme crawl back in with patterned wallpapers, cushioned sofas and plant accents adding texture to your home. Not only this, you’ll find that patterns will decorate kitchens and bathrooms. Patterned splashback boards, tiles and flooring are set to replace the simple bold colours.
Maritime design
Colourful scallop furniture, mirrored arches and fish scale-shaped tiles will make their way into your homes this year. Think less seaside and more geometric marine patterns where tropical fish are the inspiration. Bright colours, shimmering glass and textured blues can create a warm, stylish and sophisticated environment that’s reminiscent of the art deco era – a bold statement to replicate.
Metal features
Metalwork is still a popular focus for many designers with natural coppers appearing in bathrooms in the form of exposed plumbing. But, instead of appealing to industrial stylings where visible pipes accompany rough wood exposures and tarnished metal worktops; metals will be used as features. With wrought-iron tables, sculptures and wall art already making waves online, you can expect to pick up some statement pieces from the high street throughout the year. Spray-painted metals are still going to be popular with the focus on gold, silver, rose gold and some jewel tones.
By incorporating these design trends with a pop of colour, your home interior projects will be looking stylish and well up to date.
